Anthony-John "AJ" Greer (born December 14, 1996 in Joliette , Québec ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Colorado Avalanche from the National Hockey League since July 2016 and also for their farm team , the Colorado Eagles , in of the American Hockey League plays in the position of the left winger .

Career

Greer initially played for junior teams in his home province of Québec until 2012 . With the beginning of the school year 2012/13 he attended the Kimball Union Academy in Meriden , New Hampshire , where he played for the high school ice hockey team for two years . During the 2013/14 season, he came, among other things, sporadically for the Des Moines Buccaneers from the United States Hockey League to two missions. In the summer of 2014, the striker finally decided to continue his career at Boston University . In addition to his studies, he also played there for the local ice hockey team in Hockey East , a division in the game operations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association . Although Greer was able to win the division championship with the team in his rookie season with the university, he only contributed seven scorer points in 37 games. Nevertheless, he was selected in the second round of the NHL Entry Draft 2015 in 39th position by the Colorado Avalanche from the National Hockey League . However, the Canadian continued to play a minor role in the 2015/16 season, so that he left the university in December 2015 after 18 further disappointing missions.

The attacker then moved to the Québec Major Junior Hockey League to the Huskies de Rouyn-Noranda . Greer was given significantly more responsibility there than in Boston and paid back the trust with 27 points in 33 missions. In the play-offs he led the team together with Francis Perron and Timo Meier to win the championship, in which he made a significant contribution with 22 points in 20 games. In July 2016, Colorado finally signed him. At the beginning of the 2016/17 season , they first used him in their farm team San Antonio Rampage in the American Hockey League , before they called him to the NHL squad for the first time in mid-November, where he made his debut. In total, he completed five missions for the Avalanche and spent the rest of the season with the Rampage. At the end of the season he received the AHL's Yanick Dupré Memorial Award .
