Jérémy Roy (born May 14, 1997 in Richelieu , Québec ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the San Jose Sharks of the National Hockey League since September 2015 and since October 2017 for their farm team , the San Jose Barracuda , in the American Hockey League plays on the position of defender .
Career
At the beginning of his junior years, Roy played for the team at the Collège Antoine-Girouard in Saint-Hyacinthe in his home province of Québec between 2011 and 2013 . There the defender had been one of the best players in the league at the end of his second season and was named the best defender. After the election in the entry draft of the Ligue de hockey junior majeur du Québec by the Phoenix de Sherbrooke in the summer of 2013 in fourth place, he switched to the team in the LHJMQ for the 2013/14 season . In his rookie year , the 16-year-old impressed with 44 scorer points in 64 appearances. In addition to being elected to the league's all-rookie team, he was also awarded the Trophée Raymond Lagacé for the best defensive newcomer to the league. In the following two game years in Sherbrooke, the defender never completed more than 50 games, as he was always out due to assignments to junior teams and minor injuries. Nevertheless, he was both in the KHL Junior Draft 2014 in the first round in 26th place from the Latvian club Dinamo Riga from the Continental Hockey League and in the NHL Entry Draft 2015 in the second round in 31st position from the San Jose Sharks from the National Hockey League selected. The latter tied the defensive player before the start of the 2015/16 season with a three-year NHL entry contract .
In the spring of 2016 after the end of the season, Roy was transferred within the LHJMQ from Sherbrooke to the Armada de Blainville-Boisbriand , with whom he went into his final junior game year. Roy completed only ten games for the Armada, because he tore a cruciate ligament in his left knee at the beginning of the season and was out for the rest of the season. After his recovery at the beginning of the 2016/17 season , the San Jose Sharks decided to call the defender into the professional field, although he could have stayed in the junior division for another year. Roy was at the beginning of the season in the roster of the San Jose Barracuda , the farm team of the San Jose Sharks in the American Hockey League . There he played a total of 20 games until the end of December 2017, before tearing a cruciate ligament in the same knee again and failed again until summer 2018.
International
For his homeland, Roy was on the ice in numerous tournaments. First he was at the World U-17 Hockey Challenge in January 2014 for the selection team of the Province of Québec . He finished fourth with the team, with Roy being the most successful defender of the entire tournament with five scorer points and being considered for being elected to the All-Star team. A few months later, he took part in the 2014 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament with the Canadian team . There he was victorious with the selection and won the gold medal. After all, he played at the 2015 U18 World Junior Championships in Switzerland , where the Canadians won the bronze medal. Roy was able to draw attention again as the most dangerous defender of the entire tournament and as one of the top three players in the Canadian squad.
