Matthew "Matt" Moulson (born November 1, 1983 in North York , Ontario ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League since July 2019 and plays there in the position of left winger .

Career

Matt Moulson began his career as a hockey player with the Springfield Spirit , for which he was active in the 2001/02 season in the US Junior League North American Hockey League . The attacker then played for four years for the Cornell University team , with whom he won the ECAC Hockey championship in 2003 and 2005 . During his university days, the left shooter was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2003 in the ninth round as a total of 263 players by the Pittsburgh Penguins , for which he never played.

Instead, Moulson signed on September 1, 2006 as a free agent with the Los Angeles Kings , for whom he made his debut in the National Hockey League in the 2007/08 season , after working exclusively for Los Angeles farm team , the Manchester Monarchs , the previous year from the American Hockey League , had been on the ice. Since the Canadian could not prevail in the NHL roster of the Kings, he played again in the 2008/09 season almost exclusively for the Manchester Monarchs in the AHL.

On July 6, 2009, Moulson signed a contract with the New York Islanders as a free agent . After four seasons and 118 goals in 304 games for the Islanders, Moulson was given to the Buffalo Sabers in October 2013 in exchange for Thomas Vanek . The Sabers also received two draft picks, one for the first round in 2014 and one for the second round in 2015 . On his NHL debut for the Sabers on the following day, Moulson scored two goals in a 4-3 defeat by Dallas .

A few months later in March 2014, Moulson and Cody McCormick were given to the Minnesota Wild , in return the Sabers received Torrey Mitchell and a second-round draft pick in 2014 and 2016. At the end of the 2013/14 season, the Wild did not extend his contract, so Moulson - as well as McCormick - returned to the Sabers. He signed a five-year contract there. In December 2017, the Sabers loaned the attacker to the Ontario Reign from the AHL; a loan that was continued at the beginning of the 2018/19 season. In July 2019, the striker finally signed a contract with the Hershey Bears from the AHL.
