Jack Robert Hillen (born January 24, 1986 in Minnetonka , Minnesota ) is a former American ice hockey player and current coach who played 313 games for the New York Islanders , Nashville Predators , Washington during his playing career between 2003 and 2015 Capitals and Carolina Hurricanes has played in the National Hockey League on the position of defender .
Career
Jack Hillen, who attended the Academy of Holy Angels during his high school years, began his career as a hockey player with the Tri-City Storm, for which he played in the junior league United States Hockey League in the 2003/04 season . The defender then played for four years for the Colorado College team before making his National Hockey League debut for the New York Islanders , who signed him on April 1, 2008 as a free agent , towards the end of the 2007/08 season . In the following season, the left shooter ran parallel for the New York Islanders in the NHL and their farm team , the Bridgeport Sound Tigers , in the American Hockey League . From the 2009/10 season Hillen played exclusively for the Islanders and made his debut for the US national team at the 2010 World Cup in May 2010 .
In August 2011 he was awarded a contract for the 2011/12 season as a free agent by the Nashville Predators . He then joined the Washington Capitals and was able to establish himself there in the NHL line-up before he was handed over to the Carolina Hurricanes in February 2015, including a four-round vote for the 2015 NHL Entry Draft and in exchange for Tim Gleason . Hillen ended the 2014/15 season with the Hurricanes , but did not receive an additional contract and announced the end of his active professional career in January 2016.
As a result, he accepted a position at the Academy of Holy Angels as an assistant coach in the summer of 2016.
