Cody McCormick (born April 18, 1983 in London , Ontario ) is a former Canadian ice hockey player and current coach . The attacker completed 432 games for the Colorado Avalanche , Buffalo Sabers and Minnesota Wild in the National Hockey League . In April 2016 he ended his career for health reasons.

Career

Cody McCormick was selected in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft in the fifth round in a total of 144th position by the Colorado Avalanche . However, he did not play his first NHL game until the 2003/04 season . In the following season 2004/05 he played due to the lockout the entire season on the farm team of the Avalanche, the Lake Erie Monsters in the American Hockey League . In the 2006/07 season he did not prevail in the NHL squad, which is why he was used almost the entire season at the Albany River Rats in the American Hockey League.

His performance has since stabilized and Cody McCormick was an integral part of the Colorado Avalanche team. On July 15, 2008, his contract was extended for another year. In the summer of 2009, the management of the Avalanche did not extend the contract, whereupon the striker signed a contract with the Buffalo Sabers as a free agent in early August . The 2009/10 season he spent during the regular season completely with Buffalos farm team Portland Pirates in the AHL and was in the NHL team Buffalos in three play-off games for use. In the 2010/11 season, McCormick established himself as a regular for the Sabers and set career highs in both categories with 20 scorer points in 81 completed NHL games.

On March 5, 2014, Cody McCormick was handed over to the Minnesota Wild together with Matt Moulson , in return the Sabers received Torrey Mitchell and a second-round draft pick in 2014 and 2016. McCormick left Minnesota in July 2014 and returned (as did Matt Moulson ) returned to the Buffalo Sabers, where he signed a three-year contract.

In January 2015, McCormick was diagnosed with a blood clot in his left leg, due to which he did not play a game for over a year and finally ended his career in April 2016 in order not to endanger his health. McCormick has been the head coach of the Buffalo Beauts from the National Women's Hockey League since December 2018 .
