Colin Andrew White (born January 30, 1997 in Boston , Massachusetts ) is an American ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Ottawa Senators in the National Hockey League since April 2017 and plays for them on the position of the center .
Career
Colin White was born in Boston, but spent part of his childhood in Nebraska before his family returned to Massachusetts and settled in Hanover . In his youth, the attacker played for the Boston Advantage , the Cape Cod Whalers and the Noble and Greenough School in the regional high school league. For the 2013/14 season, White moved to the USA Hockey National Team Development Program (NTDP), the central talent factory of the US ice hockey federation from Ann Arbor , Michigan . With the local youth selections, he took part in the game operations of the United States Hockey League (USHL), the highest junior league in the United States. In addition, the NTDP teams also function as junior national teams, so that he and Team USA took part in the World U-17 Hockey Challenge 2014 in January and in the U18 World Championship in 2015 , where they won gold medals. In addition, he led all players in goals (8), assists (10) and scorer points (18) in the World U-17 Hockey Challenge and was subsequently elected to the all-star team of the tournament. After two years in the NTDP, White was selected in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft in 21st position by the Ottawa Senators .
After two years, White also retired from the NTDP due to old age and enrolled at Boston College in autumn 2015 , where he then took part in the National Collegiate Athletic Association's game operations for the Boston College Eagles in Hockey East . Even as a freshman , the striker achieved a point average of over 1.0 (43 in 37 games), so that he was named Rookie of the Year in the league and was elected to the Hockey East Second All-Star Team and the Hockey East All-Rookie Team . He also made his debut in the US U20 national team at the turn of the year 2015/16 , finishing third at the 2016 U20 World Cup . For the 2016/17 season, White returned to Boston College for another year, again taking part in the U20 World Cup and now winning the gold medal with the team. He finished his last college season with 35 points from 37 games before joining the Binghamton Senators , the Ottawa Senators' farm team from the American Hockey League (AHL) , in March 2017 on an amateur tryout . There the attacker made his professional debut, scored one goal and two assists in three appearances and finally signed an entry contract in Ottawa at the beginning of April 2017 . The next day, White made his debut for the Senators in the National Hockey League (NHL).
With the start of the 2017/18 season, he was regularly used in the NHL, but was initially mainly used in Ottawa's new farm team, the Belleville Senators . After the season he made his debut for the senior national team of the USA as part of the 2018 World Cup and won the bronze medal there with the team. From the 2018/19 season, White finally established himself in the NHL and recorded 41 points in 71 games in his first full season in Ottawa. He then signed a new six-year contract in the Canadian capital in August 2019, which should earn him an average annual salary of $ 4.75 million.
