Blake Speers (born January 2, 1997 in Sault Ste. Marie , Ontario ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Arizona Coyotes in the National Hockey League (NHL) since December 2019 and at the same time for their farm team , the Tucson Roadrunners , in the American Hockey League (AHL) plays on the position of the center .

Career

Until 2013 Speers played for numerous clubs around his native Sault Ste. Marie , before the 2013/14 season in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) with the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds switched. The center forward played there for three years and was elected to the league's First All-Rookie Team after his rookie season . In the 2015 NHL Entry Draft , he was selected in the third round in 67th position by the New Jersey Devils from the National Hockey League , who signed him in September 2016. Thanks to his good performance in the pre-season training camp, he earned a place in the Devils squad at the beginning of the 2016/17 season and finally celebrated his competitive debut on October 13, 2016. After a total of three NHL missions, however, the Devils sent him back to the Greyhounds in the OHL for further development. After the end of the 2016/17 OHL season, he was also on the ice in two playoff games for the Albany Devils , New Jersey's farm team , in the American Hockey League (AHL). The Albany Devils moved to Binghamton for the following season and henceforth operate as Binghamton Devils , in which Speers continued to be used without being reappointed to the NHL squad.

Finally, in December 2019, the Devils gave it, including Taylor Hall, to the Arizona Coyotes . In return, the Devils received the young players Nick Merkley , Nate Schnarr and Kevin Bahl , a conditional first-round vote for the NHL Entry Draft 2020 and an equally conditional third-round vote for the NHL Entry Draft 2021 .

International

Speers played in the World U-17 Hockey Challenge 2014 for the Canada Ontario team , with whom he finished fifth. In five tournament games he scored six points. He is also part of the Canadian squad at the 2017 U20 World Youth Championship , where he won the silver medal.
