The Christoph-Probst-Gymnasium ( CPG ) is a science, technology and language high school in Gilching , Starnberg district, Bavaria. It is state sponsored.

Location, catchment area, accessibility

The grammar school is located in the Neugilching district of the Gilching community in the north-west of the Bavarian district of Starnberg .

The catchment area of the CPG is roughly bounded by Herrsching am Ammersee in the southwest, Inning am Ammersee in the west, Alling in the north and Geisenbrunn in the east.

The Neugilching S-Bahn station on the S8 line of the Munich S-Bahn is 0.7 km southeast of the school.

The school is also served directly by buses in the morning, at noon and in the late afternoon from different directions.

History, building

The west side of the CPG

In the second half of the 20th century, the population in the district of Starnberg and in particular in the community of Gilching grew rapidly. In the Starnberg district, the population increased from 65,000 in 1950 over 74,000 (1961) to 87,000 in 1970. In Gilching the population grew from 5,100 in 1950 to 8,300 in 1970. Simultaneously with the increase in the absolute number of inhabitants, the relative rate of those attending a grammar school instead of other types of school increased considerably. So the need arose to increase the number of grammar schools in the area west of Munich. In Gilching this necessity materialized in the construction of a new grammar school, today's CPG. It was inaugurated in 1975.

An extension was opened in 2009. Various renovations were carried out in 2014 and 2015.

The CPG has a main building with an extension, a separate triple gymnasium, a school sports field with a large soccer field and cinder track, and basketball and volleyball courts. The high school is a structural unit with the Arnoldus elementary school at the southeast end of the area.

Naming

The graves of Christoph Probst (right) and Sophie and Hans Scholl in the Perlacher Forst cemetery in Munich

After its founding in 1975, the grammar school remained without a special name for many years. In the meantime, due to the proximity of the then factory airport of the Dornierwerke in Oberpfaffenhofen , thought was given to adopting the name Claudius- Dornier -Gymnasium . However, this was not done because of feared involvement of the company in the Nazi system.

In 1993 the grammar school decided to take the name "Christoph-Probst-Gymnasium". It was named after Christoph Probst , a member of the student resistance organization White Rose, which was active during National Socialism . After his discovery, arrest and conviction, Christoph Probst was executed in a farce-like process at the so-called People's Court under Roland Freisler on February 22, 1943 in Munich - Stadelheim .

The name was given in agreement and in close consultation with Michael Probst, Christoph Probst's eldest son, who lived in Gilching until his death in 2010.

The CPG is one of the largest high schools in Bavaria. In the 2018/19 school year there were around 1330 students, 114 full-time and part-time teachers and 10 trainee teachers. There was

  • eight fifth grades,
  • six sixth grades,
  • six seventh grades,
  • six eighth grades,
  • six ninth grades and
  • seven tenth grades.
  • The 11th grade had 131 students,
  • the twelfth 145.

The high number of students and teachers enables a correspondingly high number of courses, initiatives, options and subjects for voluntary teaching.

Training directions

The CPG offers a scientific-technological branch and a linguistic branch in accordance with the given curricula. As in all grammar schools, the two do not differ up to and including 7th grade, but only from 8th grade onwards. In both branches, English is the first foreign language from the 5th grade, and Latin or French can be chosen as a second foreign language in the 6th grade.

Scientific and technological branch

The school garden

From year 8 onwards, computer science, chemistry and other profile lessons are included in the curriculum in the scientific and technological branch.

Linguistic branch

The linguistic branch raises Spanish as a third foreign language in the timetable from year 8.

Special extended offer

In addition to the offers in accordance with the requirements of the ministerial curricula, the CPG has other offers for the pupils.

Promotion of the gifted

A variety of courses are offered as elective courses, which can be attended according to the inclinations, to match the various talents of the many students.

music

The CPG enables practical music-making in a variety of ways.

Choir classes, young choir

With the concept of choir classes, practical musical training is increasingly integrated into the timetable. It affects the 5th and 6th grades. A choir class differs from "normal" classes only in music lessons. As part of the regular music lessons, more singing than usual and reading music is practiced. In addition, once a week in the early afternoon the students visit the boys' choir and receive voice training in small groups. The concept is very well received. In the school year 2016/17 three of the six fifth grades were choir classes.

Choirs

In addition to the above Boys choir there are two other choirs:

The large choir connects to the young choir. Those of the 7th and higher grades who want to continue singing after the boys' choir can participate here.

The vocal ensemble of the CPG then operates the choir singing even more intensely and is occupied with all four voices (SATB).

orchestra

Several school orchestras have been founded at the CPG.

Pupils in the fifth and sixth grades play in the so-called small orchestra .

In the large orchestra , the pupils of the higher grades play, sometimes reinforced by members of the teaching staff. In the large orchestra all common instrument groups are occupied (strings, wood and brass instruments, piano / harpsichord, timpani, ...).

An instrumental ensemble is offered as an optional lesson for the upper level.

Under the guidance of a music teacher, the various orchestras rehearse pieces of various degrees of difficulty and perform them on appropriate occasions.

Sports

The sports fields of the CPG

Movement arts

In the voluntary subject of movement arts, acrobatics, unicycling, juggling with balls, rings, clubs, devil sticks, diabolos and much more are practiced in a team and presented with show character on suitable occasions. The partition has its own website. Several dozen students from all grades take part.

Relay race

A relay race around the Wesslinger See has been taking place regularly for several years.

Alpine cross

If there is enough interest, a so-called alpine cross on foot or by bike is offered.

School trips, exchanges

School camp

At the beginning of the school year, the sixth grades go to a school camp for three days, accompanied by two teachers (if possible the class leaders) and, if necessary, tutors. There, in consultation with the accompanying teachers, the educators of the youth settlement put together the program for the school campus stay. The focus is often on the environment, cooperation, sport.

Ski course

A ski course is planned for grade 7. In addition to the ski course, the one-week program includes lessons on avalanche and environmental studies.

Orientation days

Orientation days are organized for the 10th grade . With them, questions and problems of shaping one's life and developing one's personality come up for discussion. Current concerns of the participants can also be discussed.

Comenius program

The CPG participates in the Comenius program and enables students to exchange ideas with students in Holland, southern Italy and Turkey.

Partnerships, student exchanges

The CPG maintains school partnerships with comparable schools in France, England, Spain and Costa Rica. There are regular exchanges that are offered to the students.
