The Dornier Aircraft GmbH (DFW) is a company of EADS at its Manching . The area of activity is the support of the mission and large aircraft of NATO and the armed forces , such as AWACS , the TCA, the P-3C Orion CUP and the rest of the Breguet Atlantic . These are parts of the former Dornier Repair Shipyard (DRW) in Oberpfaffenhofen , which ran the AWACS and Breguet Atlantic programs there.

Emergence

As part of the reorganization of the German aviation industry and the transfer of Dornier GmbH to DASA in 1994/95, the above-mentioned aircraft maintenance programs were to be relocated from Oberpfaffenhofen to Manching, the Dornier Repair Shipyard (DRW) was to be closed in favor of the DASA employees in Manching and only some key personnel will be taken over.

Since this planned measure was, in the legal sense, a plant closure of the DRW, NATO and the Federal Office for Defense Technology and Procurement could not transfer the current contracts to the DASA without a competitive and international tender. The DASA therefore decided to relocate the parts of the DRW that were concerned with the above-mentioned aircraft programs as a separate company as the legal successor of the DRW under the name Dornier Flugzeugwerft, but not to dissolve them. The parts that remained in Oberpfaffenhofen, including the maintenance of the Bell UH-1 , were sold to RUAG . Around 150 employees followed the relocation, moved their place of work from Oberpfaffenhofen to Manching and thus became weekend commuters. The division of labor was regulated in a construct between DASA and DFW. DFW took on the orders, managed them in a customer relationship, but subcontracted the technical implementation to DASA. In another construct, DASA managers also became DFW managers in a double function. The DFW was thus operated by the DASA with the long-term goal of integration into the DASA. The transfer of DASA to EADS did not change anything about this constellation for the time being. After taking care of the P-3C Orion, the number of employees has increased to around 200.

The DFW is therefore a direct and functioning part of the former Dornier-Werke alongside Dornier Consulting GmbH .

Part of EADS

With the establishment of EADS NV, EADS Deutschland GmbH takes over the DaimlerChrysler Aerospace shares from DFW. Since January 1, 2006, DFW has been a 100% subsidiary of EADS Deutschland GmbH. Since April 1, 2010, Dornier Flugzeugwerft GmbH has been completely transferred to EADS Deutschland GmbH.
