Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson (born October 31, 1996 in Stockholm ) is a Swedish ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Växjö Lakers from Svenska Hockeyligan since June 2019 and plays there in the position of the center .

Career

Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson was born in Stockholm and played there in his youth for the junior teams of Hammarby Hockey , the ice hockey department of Hammarby IF . He later switched to Nacka HK , in whose junior teams he was active until the end of the 2011/12 season. At the beginning of the 2012/13 season, the attacker joined the Linköpings HC and from then on was mainly on the ice for its U20s in the J20 SuperElit , the highest junior league in Sweden. After Lokomotive Yaroslavl had selected him in the KHL Junior Draft 2013 in 130th position, Forsbacka Karlsson decided to move to the United States, however, to the Omaha Lancers from the United States Hockey League (USHL). In the highest ranking junior league in the United States, the attacker increased his personal statistics in his second USHL season to a points average of over 1.0 (53 in 50 games), so that he was appointed to the league's third all-star team . In the subsequent NHL Entry Draft 2015 , the Boston Bruins selected him in 45th position.

For the time being, however, the Swede moved to Boston University and was therefore active for their ice hockey team, the Terriers , in Hockey East in the National Collegiate Athletic Association's game operations from autumn 2015 . As a freshman he scored 30 scorer points in 39 games and was subsequently elected to the Hockey East All- Rookie Team . In his second and final college season, Forsbacka Karlsson increased his statistic slightly to 33 points before signing an entry-level contract with the Boston Bruins in April 2017 . Only a few days later, the attacker made his debut in the National Hockey League (NHL).

Forsbacka Karlsson spent the 2017/18 season entirely with the Boston farm team , the Providence Bruins , in the American Hockey League (AHL). After he came back to NHL missions in the following season, he did not extend his contract and returned to Sweden, where he joined the Växjö Lakers .

International

On the international level, Forsbacka Karlsson represented his home country for the first time at the World U-17 Hockey Challenge 2013 and won the gold medal there with the team. He then took part with the Tre Kronor junior national teams in the U18 World Championships in 2013 and 2014 and in the U20 World Cup in 2016 .
