Anders Gabriel Carlsson (* 2. January 1997 in Örebro ) is a Swedish ice hockey player , who since April 2016 the Columbus Blue Jackets in the National Hockey League is under contract and in parallel for their farm team, the Cleveland Monsters in the American Hockey League on the position of the defender plays.

Career

Gabriel Carlsson was born in Örebro and played there in his youth for the Örebro IS , among others , before moving to the youth department of Örebro HK , where he was active in the club's J18 until 2013. For the 2013/14 season, the defender moved to Linköpings HC , for whose junior selection he subsequently ran up in the J18 Allsvenskan and in the J20 SuperElit , the highest junior league in Sweden in this age group. In addition, Carlsson made his debut with the men of Linköpings HC in the Svenska Hockeyligan (SHL) during the 2014/15 season and thus completed his first 17 professional appearances. The Swede mainly played at J20 level for the time being and established himself in the SuperElit as a defensive defensive player by achieving nine scorer points and a plus / minus rating of +25 in a total of 42 games . Carlsson was then selected in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft in 29th position by the Columbus Blue Jackets .

At the beginning of the 2015/16 season, the defender established himself in the SHL line-up of Linköpings HC and completed two full seasons there, having signed an entry-level contract with Columbus Blue Jackets in April 2016 . He then moved to North America for the first time in April 2017 and initially played three games for the Blue Jackets' farm team , the Cleveland Monsters , in the American Hockey League . A little later, the Swede also made his debut for Columbus in the National Hockey League (NHL) and came to a total of seven missions by the end of the season, five of them in the first playoff round.

International

Carlsson gained his first international experience in 2014 when he took part in the World U-17 Hockey Challenge and the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament with the Swedish team . There he and the team missed the medal ranks as well as afterwards at the U18 World Championship in 2015 and the U20 World Championship in 2016 and 2017 .
