Joren van Pottelberghe (born June 5, 1997 in Zug ) is a Swiss ice hockey goalkeeper of Belgian descent who has been under contract with HC Davos from the National League since 2016 .

Player career

Van Pottelberghe is the son of Belgian parents who met in Switzerland. He was trained at EV Zug before moving to Sweden for three years in 2013, where he played in the junior division of Linköping HC . In 2015 he was taken in the National Hockey League (NHL) draft in the fourth round of the selection process in a total of 110th place by the Detroit Red Wings .

In January 2016 he signed a three-year contract with HC Davos , which was valid from the 2016/17 season. The HCD waived the commitment of an experienced goalkeeper, but went into the season with a very young duo, which, in addition to the then 19-year-old van Pottelberghe, included Gilles Senn , who was around a year older and who had previously been number two in the goalkeeping position in Davos was. Van Pottelberghe's appearances in the National League A (NLA) included games in the Champions Hockey League . In the 2018/19 season, van Pottelberghe was only the third goalkeeper after Davos' engagement with Anders Lindbäck and was loaned to the Danish first division club Rungsted Seier Capital for four games at the beginning of October 2018  before returning to Davos as agreed. At the end of November 2018, he switched to the Swiss League on loan to EHC Kloten . After the end of the 2018/19 season, he returned to HC Davos.

National team

Van Pottelberghe took part in the 2015 World Cup with the Swiss U18 national team and was the regular goalkeeper during the tournament. The same was true for the U20 World Cup in the same year.
