Christian Wohlwend (born January 4, 1977 in Montréal , Québec ) is a Canadian - Swiss ice hockey coach and former player. He has been the head coach of HC Davos since April 2019 .
Player career
Wohlwend completed a total of 47 appearances in the National League A (NLA) for SC Rapperswil-Jona and the Kloten Flyers in the 1996/97 and 1999/2000 seasons . In the course of his career he also played for HC Thurgau , Grasshopper Club Zurich and EHC Chur in the second Swiss league, National League B (NLB). He was appointed to the Swiss national teams in the U18 and U20 age groups.
Coaching career
He began his coaching career in the youth department of HC Thurgau , before starting in 2007 as head coach for two years at EHC Wallisellen in the second division (fourth highest Swiss division) and then for four years at EHC Bülach in the first division (third highest Swiss division). In 2013 Wohlwend moved to HC Lugano , where he was a youth coach and assistant coach in the NLA team. During the 2015/16 season, after Patrick Fischer's dismissal in October 2015, he temporarily took over the post of head coach before Doug Shedden was signed. At several tournaments, Wohlwend was part of the coaching staff of the Swiss U19 and U20 national team (as an assistant coach for the U20s and sometimes as head coach for the U19s).
For the 2016/17 season he was hired as head coach by the NLB club HC Thurgau , but the agreement was resolved in early summer 2016. Wohlwend was introduced in June 2016 as the new head coach of the Swiss U20 national team, previously there had been an "amicable solution" with HC Thurgau. In addition to his job as head coach of the U20 national team, he was also assistant coach of the senior national team. In April 2019 he was introduced as the new coach of HC Davos .
