Andres Ambühl (born September 14, 1983 in Davos ) is a Swiss ice hockey player who has been under contract with HC Davos in the Swiss National League since 2013 .
Career
Andres Ambühl began his career in 2000 with the Elite A-Juniors of HC Davos. In the same season he made his debut in the National League A for Davos. Already one year later, he was determined to NLA squad of HCD and shot on 11 September 2001 his first NLA-goal in the game against ZSC Lions .
In the following years Ambühl developed into a strong defensive striker, who is characterized above all by good checking and his combat-oriented game. In 2002, 2005, 2007 and 2009 he became Swiss champion with HC Davos, and the team also won the Spengler Cup several times . At the Spengler Cup 2007 Ambühl scored the decisive 3-2 against Team Canada when the Canadian goalkeeper Justin Pogge lost a puck behind his own goal and Ambühl only had to push it into the empty goal.
In December 2007, Ambühl extended his contract with the HCD for two more years with an exit clause for a foreign engagement. At the end of the 2008/09 season he was again Swiss champion with the HCD. Due to the performances shown, he was signed by the New York Rangers in May 2009 after nine seasons at HCD . He did not play a game for the Rangers, but was only used in the American Hockey League .
On April 16, 2010, the ZSC Lions announced that Ambühl would return to Switzerland and would have signed a three-year contract with an NHL release clause until July 15, 2010. In 2012 he became Swiss champion with the Lions.
On December 28, 2012 it was announced that Andres Ambühl will return to his home club HC Davos for the next season after three years in Zurich. He has been captain of HC Davos since the 2014/15 season.
International
Andres Ambühl played his first game for Switzerland at the U18 World Cup in 2001 . In the following two years he played for the Swiss U20 national team , u. a. at the U20 World Cup in 2002 and the U20 World Cup in 2003 . From 2004 he was regularly appointed to the Swiss national team and established himself as a regular player. Since then, he has been on the ice for Switzerland at all subsequent World Championships ( 2004 , 2005 , 2006 , 2007 , 2008 , 2009 , 2010 , 2011 , 2012 , 2013 , 2014 , 2015 , 2016 and 2017 ). Ambühl also qualified for the Olympic ice hockey tournament in 2005 and the 2006 Winter Olympics in Turin , 2010 in Vancouver and 2014 in Sochi .
At the 2013 World Cup in Stockholm and Helsinki , he was also part of the national team and won the silver medal with it.
