Roland McKeown (* 20th January 1996 in Listowel , Ontario ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who, since October 2016 the Carolina Hurricanes in the National Hockey League plays and in parallel for their farm team, the Charlotte Checkers , in the American Hockey League is used .

Career

McKeown played until 2012 with the Toronto Marlboros in the lower class junior leagues of the province of Ontario . At the OHL Priority Selection 2012 he was selected second by the Kingston Frontenacs from the Ontario Hockey League , for which he has been playing since then. In the 2012/13 season he was appointed to the OHL All-Rookie Team because of his outstanding performance.

In the NHL Entry Draft 2014 he was considered a top prospect and was ultimately selected in 50th position by the Los Angeles Kings . They gave the rights to him in February 2015, including a first-round right to vote for the 2015 NHL Entry Draft, to the Carolina Hurricanes in order to sign Andrej Sekera . McKeown signed a three-year entry contract with the Hurricanes in April 2014 .

In November 2017 McKeown made his NHL debut for the Hurricanes but remained permanent staff for the Charlotte Checkers, with whom he won the Calder Cup at the end of the 2018/19 season.

International

McKeown won the gold medal with the Canadian U18 national team at the 2013 U18 Ice Hockey World Championship and at the 2013 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament . He also took part in the U20 World Cup in 2016 , but only finished sixth with the team.
