biography

Kåre Hedebrant was born in 1995 in the Stockholm district of Hässelby . He attends the renowned Adolf Fredriks Music School in Stockholm, where he is trained in singing and is a member of the school choir. With this, Hedebrant undertook guest tours in Europe. In autumn 2005 he took on the lead role, alongside Ulf Larrson and Marianne Scheja, in an open-air theater production by Astrid Lindgren's Michel from Lönneberga in the garden of the Stockholm Armémuseum .

Hedebrant's breakthrough as an actor came with his first leading role in Tomas Alfredson's feature film So dark the night (2008). The dark horror drama, a film adaptation of the novel of the same name by John Ajvide Lindqvist , is set in a Swedish satellite town at the beginning of the 1980s and tells the story of a 12-year-old student who was terrorized by his classmates and who made the acquaintance of a new neighbor. A close relationship develops between the girl of the same age (played by Lina Leandersson ), who turns out to be a vampire, and the outsider, which gives the boy protection and protection. Hedebrant was discovered through a casting at his school for the part of "Oskar". Neither he nor his code actress Lina Leandersson were allowed to read the script. In order to pass on information about the respective scenes to be played, Alfredson read the two children their text aloud before each scene.

So dark the night celebrated its world premiere at the end of January 2008 at the Göteborg International Film Festival , where Tomas Alfredson's directorial work was immediately awarded the main prize of the film festival. The film was in the favor of cinema audiences and critics and was awarded, among other things, five Guldbagge awards, Sweden's most important film award. The relatively unknown Kåre Hedebrant and Lina Leandersson were also praised for their acting performance. Die Welt emphasized the seriousness of the child actors of the "highly original vampire and growing-up film (s)" , while the American critic Roger Ebert rated the performance of the young actors as "strong" as well . Hedebrant was nominated together with fellow actors like Dev Patel ( Slumdog Millionaire ) for the Online Film Critics Society Award for Best Young Actor, where he was left behind compared to his film colleague Lina Leandersson. In 2009 the 13-year-old was nominated for the American Young Artist Award together with Leandersson .

Kåre Hedebrant lives with his parents and a sister seven years older in Stockholm. After the success of his first film role, the student, who counts Shining among his favorite films, announced that he was not averse to an acting career, but that he was also interested in other professions. Hedebrant resumed his acting career in 2011 with the lead role in Kristoffer Metcalfe's Norwegian youth film Amors baller , in which he plays a boy from Stockholm who moves to the Norwegian provinces and falls in love with the leading player of the female soccer team. This was followed by appearances in the Swedish television series Anno 1790 (2011) and Äktaomanniskor (2012).

Hedebrant plays the piano and guitar.
