Lina Leandersson (born September 27, 1995 in Falun , Dalarna County ) is a Swedish actress. She became known to a wide audience through her first leading role in the feature film So sinster die Nacht (2008).

biography

Lina Leandersson is of Swedish and Iranian descent and was born in Falun, where she grew up and attended school. Although her family is very fond of sports, she began to be interested in dance and acting at an early age. Among other things, she played in an amateur theater and took acting classes. She also devoted herself to street and jazz dance . In 2006, the 11-year-old appeared as a juror at Lilla Melodifestivalen , the Swedish preliminary decision for the Junior Eurovision Song Contest . That same year Leandersson and five other children were selected from 500 applicants to participate in the Swedish children's program Nickelodeon's programledarskola , which was televised in October 2006.

Leandersson's breakthrough as an actress came with her first leading role in Tomas Alfredson's feature film So dark the night (2008). The dark horror drama, a film adaptation of the novel of the same name by John Ajvide Lindqvist , is set in a Swedish satellite town in the early 1980s and tells the story of a 12-year-old student (played by Kåre Hedebrant ) who was terrorized by his classmates and who became acquainted with a new neighbor child. A close relationship develops between the girl of the same age, who turns out to be a vampire, and the outsider, which gives the boy protection and connection. Although she did not know the script of the film, Leandersson had gone to an internet casting and auditioned for the role three times before she got the part of Eli. In order to be able to portray the character androgynous , director Tomas Alfredson had the voice of his leading actress dubbed. Leandersson and co-actor Kåre Hedebrant were also not allowed to read the script. In order to pass on information about the respective scenes to be played, Alfredson read the two children their text aloud before each scene. After filming, the director praised his leading actress as an “unusual girl” and often compared Leandersson to “an 80-year-old woman” because of her radiant wisdom and calm .

So dark the night celebrated its premiere at the end of January 2008 at the Göteborg International Film Festival , where Tomas Alfredson's directorial work was immediately awarded the main prize of the film festival. The film was in the favor of cinema audiences and critics and was awarded, among other things, five Guldbagge awards, Sweden's most important film award. The still relatively unknown Lina Leandersson in the role of Eli was also praised for her acting performance. Die Welt emphasized the seriousness of the child actors of the "highly original vampire and growing-up film (s)" , while American critics described Leandersson as "extremely good" , "mysterious and captivating" and spoke to Kirsten Dunst in an interview with compared to a vampire (1994). She won the Online Film Critics Society Award for Best Young Actress , where she prevailed against Dev Patel ( Slumdog Millionaire ) and her film colleague Kåre Hedebrant and became famous film actresses like Kristin Scott Thomas ( So many years I love you ) and Michelle Williams ( Wendy and Lucy ) nominated for the Chlotrudis Award for Best Actress .

Leandersson lives in Falun with her mother, stepfather and two younger sisters. After the success of her first film role, the student, who counts American History X , The Sixth Sense and Atonement among her favorite films, plans to continue her acting career. However, she did not make the next films until 2012 with the productions The Arbiter and Tenderness .
