Wendy owns the dog Lucy. The woman travels to Alaska , where she hopes to find a lucrative job in a fish factory. Her car gives up on the road in Oregon , which gets Wendy into financial trouble. She becomes homeless.

Manohla Dargis noted in her report from the Cannes International Film Festival 2008 in the New York Times on May 24, 2008 that Kelly Reichardt would be one of the most interesting young American filmmakers ( “Ms. Reichardt (...) has become one of the most interesting young American filmmakers " ). The film offers "unreflected realism" and careful camera work. He is political, but without the "usual showmanship" .

Michelle Williams said in an April 2008 interview for Elle magazine that playing a homeless woman was "a very healing experience" . After that, at times she did not know where she and her two-year-old daughter - who accompanied her during the filming - should go.

The project is also known under the titles Train Choir and Wendy . The world premiere took place on May 22, 2008 at the Cannes International Film Festival 2008 (in the Un Certain Regard series ). On 5./7. September 2008 the film was shown at the Toronto International Film Festival .
