Slussen is an underground station of the Stockholm Metro below the Slussen transport hub . It is located in the Södermalm district . The Gröna linjen and Röda linjen of the Stockholm subway system stop at the station, as well as the Saltsjöbanan suburban train, one floor below . Many inner-city bus routes stop on the upper forecourt, the Södermalmstorg . In addition, numerous bus routes begin at the lower bus station, which connect the municipalities east of Stockholm, to which there is mostly no rail connection. This fact and the central location in the city center make the station the station of the subway network with the second highest user frequency. On a normal winter working day, 86,000 subway commuters get on and transfer here. In addition, there were around 21,000 passengers on Saltsjöbanan by mid-2016 .
Subway
The first station was inaugurated by King Gustaf V on October 1, 1933 , as the terminus of the tram line from Skanstull, which at that time was already underground. On October 1, 1950, the station was expanded into a real underground station as the southern terminus of the Tunnelbana network. In 1957, the extension of the Slussen - Hötorget subway section was inaugurated. The station is located between the stations Gamla stan and Mariatorget (Röda linjen) or Medborgarplatsen (Gröna linjen). It is around 1.5 km to Stockholm Central Station .
The Slussen station opened in 1933 but was not covered until 30 years later.
Earlier plans foresaw, next to the metro and the Pendeltågzüge what about the under construction Citybanan to let go should stop at the station Slussen. These plans were discarded in favor of other routes.
Saltsjobanan
In 1936 Slussen became the terminus of the Saltsjöbanan suburban railway . The station was originally called Stockholm-Saltsjöbanan , but since the name Slussen was much more popular among the population, it was later renamed. The architecture of the station was very simple, it only consisted of a track with a buffer stop. Since the summer of 2016, the Saltsjöbanan no longer runs to Slussen, but only to Henriksdal, as long as the renovation of Slussen will be completed by around 2025 and the Saltsjöbanan will then receive a new, double-track station. During the construction phase, shuttle buses connect Slussen with Henriksdal.
