Medborgarplatsen is an underground station on the Stockholm subway , which is located below the square of the same name and near the Götgatan shopping street . It is located in the Södermalm district . The station is served by the Gröna linjen of the Stockholm subway system . Its central location in the city center makes it one of the most frequented stations on the underground network. On a normal working day, 21,600 commuters get on here.
The station went into operation on October 1, 1933 under the name Södra Bantorget (Southern Railway Station ), when the tram line from Skanstull to Slussen was moved into the newly built tunnel. The station was given its current name in 1944. The metro started operating on October 1, 1950, when the first Stockholm metro section between Slussen –Hökarängen was inaugurated. The platforms are about 6-18 meters underground. The station is located between the Skanstull and Slussen stations . It is around two kilometers to Stockholm Central Station . You can change to Pendeltåg at the station Stockholms södra , which is a few minutes' walk away.
