Skanstull is an underground station on the Stockholm Metro , which is located near the Götgatan shopping street . It is located in the Södermalm district . The station is served by the Gröna linjen of the Stockholm subway system . The central location in the city center makes the station one of the most frequented stations on the underground network. On a normal winter working day, 26,700 commuters get on here.
The station went into operation on October 1, 1933 under the name Ringvägen , when the tram line was moved from here to Slussen in the newly built tunnel. The station was given its current name in 1950. The underground service began on October 1, 1950, when the first Stockholm underground section between Slussen and Hökarängen was inaugurated. The platforms are about 5 meters underground. The station lies between the stations Gullmarsplan and Medborgarplatsen . It is about three kilometers to Stockholm Central Station .
