Stockholms Södra (Stockholm-Süd) or Södra Station (Südbahnhof) is a tunnel station in the Swedish capital Stockholm in the Södermalm district . The station was opened in 1860 as the end of the Västra stambanan (western trunk line). The current train station was opened in 1989 as part of the new construction of a large residential complex, in which the underground train station is located. With 17,100 boarders (normal winter working day 2016), it is the second largest commuting station .

The tunnel station Medborgarplatsen and Mariatorget can be reached on foot in a few minutes from the eastern exit on Swedenborgsgatan. The bus lines 55, 57 and 66 also stop there. The main bus line 4 and line 74 stop at the western exit on Rosenlundsgatan.

The station has two central platforms with four tracks and two sidings. Directional operations continued until June 2017 , and only the Pendeltåg trains stopped here . In July 2017, a new railway tunnel went into operation under the center of Stockholm, the Citybanan tunnel. This threads into the existing tunnel shortly before the train station, so that the old overground route from Stockholm C is relieved. Since then, regular service has been in operation, and Pendeltåg traffic is handled exclusively on the northern platform. The southern platform is currently not in use; the long-distance, regional and freight trains pass through without stopping. However, when the old line is renovated in 2018-2020, some trains will stop and turn around there.
