Kurt von Sperling

Kurt von Sperling (born February 18, 1850 in Cologne , † August 31, 1914 in Breslau ) was a Prussian infantry general .

Life

He was the eldest son of the Prussian major general Oskar von Sperling (1814–1872) and his wife Pauline Marie Albertine von Klaß (1824–1899). One of the couple's daughters, Gertrud (1860–1921), married Paul von Hindenburg, who later became General Field Marshal and Reich President, in Stettin on September 24th .

Military career

Coming from the Cadet Corps , Sperling was transferred to the 3rd Guard Grenadier Regiment Queen Elisabeth of the Prussian Army on April 7, 1868 . During the war against France , he was slightly wounded in the battle of Gravelotte by a shot in the right leg. In the further course of the war, Sperling took part in the siege of Paris and suffered a serious wound near Aulnay from a shot in the left chest. Awarded the Iron Cross II. Class, he was adjutant of the Fusilier Battalion from September 1873 to the end of April 1874 . As Prime Lieutenant , Sperling graduated from the War Academy in 1877/80 and was assigned to the General Staff for one year in May 1881 . family

On October 2, 1875 he married Klara von Schmieden (1855–1926), the daughter of the Prussian captain Adolph von Schmieden (1822–1867) and Auguste Kuschke (1832–1901). Through the marriage that took place on the Möglin manor , his mother-in-law's country estate, he became the brother-in-law of the later General Paul von Collas , who married Klara's sister Ottilie just a month later in November 1875. Sperling's brother Erich married in 1882 on Möglin Martha von Schmieden, another sister of Sperling's wife.
