It is located in Stockholm 's Hjorthagen district and is the terminus of the T13 underground line on Röda linjen and the L21 suburban tram line ( Lidingöbanan ). The central location makes the station one of the busiest stations on the underground network. On a normal working day, 18,000 commuters get on and off here, 15,000 of them in the Tunnelbana and 3,000 in the Lidingöbanan.
The station went into operation on September 2, 1967, when the section of Röda linjen between Östermalmstorg and Ropsten was inaugurated. The 4 tracks, which are located on two central platforms, are above ground in an elevated position. It is around 4.5 km to Stockholm Central Station . The Lidingöbanan has its starting point in Ropsten, it runs from the Tunnelbanastation on over the almost one kilometer long Lidingöbron , which spans the Lilla Värtan strait .
