The current building is considered a fine example of the civil architecture of the then viceroyalty of New Granada , which was finished in 1753 by the architect Viceroy José Solís . The facade is sober and a passage to the inner courtyard with rustic columns, arches and a garden awaits the visitors. The permanent exhibition comprises 8,000 pieces from the National Bank's coin cabinet that have accumulated over the course of history.

The large collection is spread over two floors and consists of coins and medals as well as banknotes , printing machines , scales, securities , manuscripts and historical documents from different eras as well as exhibits of coinage and banknote issuance of the national currency peso from 1923.
