Casa de Nariño
The Casa de Nariño, also originally called Palacio de Nariño , is a representative historical building complex in Bogotá 's La Candelaria district and has been the official residence of the President of Colombia and his government in the capital since 1908 .
history
The palace, built in 1906 and opened in 1908, stands south of the Plaza de Bolívar in Bogotá, on the spot where the Colombian military leader and pioneer of Colombia's independence, Antonio Nariño , was born. The complex was designed by architects Gaston Lelarge and Julián Lombana in a neoclassical style . Parts of the palace are open to visitors who can admire an interesting collection of modern Colombian paintings. The palace is home to America's first observatory from 1803 in its interior gardens . The changing of the guard, accompanied by marching music, takes place every day at 5:30 pm in front of the building, on the Patio de Armas .
A final renovation, completed in 1979, now also includes a separate private house, offices for the administration of the President, and various government offices. The palace houses works of art and furniture, tapestries and mirrors from different periods of Colombian history. The Salón Amarillo (“Yellow Salon”), furnished with furniture in the Louis XV style, is of particular value . The magnificent gold shimmering room retained the original bamboo floor and the much admired stucco by the Swiss sculptor and art teacher Luigi Ramelli. Here, foreign diplomats hand over their credentials to the respective president.
