Camilo Fernando Castrellón Pizano

Camilo Fernando Castrellón Pizano SDB (born September 22, 1942 in Santafé de Bogotá ) is a Colombian religious and emeritus Roman Catholic Bishop of Barrancabermeja .

Life

After taking the temporary religious vows as a Salesian of Don Bosco on January 29, 1963 , he studied philosophy at the Estudiantado Filosófico Salesiano and then theology at the Estudiantado Teologico El Porvenir .

On December 24, 1968, he made perpetual vows. In 1972 he acquired the licentiate in theology from the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana of Bogota and received on 2 December 1972, the priestly ordination . He then worked for a year as parish vicar of Agua de Dios , where his brother Aloisius Variara had already worked. Then he was director of the obra Bosconia-Programa Gamines from 1974 to 1976 and director of the Ciudadela de los Muchachos for street children from 1979 to 1980 . Finally, he was sent to the Pontifical Salesian University in Rome , where he obtained a degree in educational science in 1983 and a degree in psychology in 1984 .

After his return to Colombia, he was responsible for vocational pastoral care in his religious province from 1985 to 1993 , served as a provincial councilor from 1989 to 1996 and was a provincial delegate of the general chapter in 1991 . In 1993 he was licensed again, this time at the University of Santo Tómas in Bogotá in philosophy.

From 1994 to 1996 he worked as pastor of the Shrine Niño Jesús in Bogotá, from 1996 to 2001 finally as Provincial of the Colombian Province.

On 23 April 2001, he was Pope John Paul II. Bishop of Tibu appointed and received on 6 June of the same year by Archbishop Beniamino Stella , the episcopal ordination . On December 2, 2009 he was appointed by Pope Benedict XVI. transferred to the diocese of Barrancabermeja.

On May 29, 2020, Pope Francis accepted the resignation from Camilo Fernando Castrellón Pizano for reasons of age.
