Trung Thu

The Trung Thu Festival ( Vietnamese : Tết Trung Thu, Hán Nôm : 節 中秋) is a large Vietnamese lantern festival that is regularly celebrated on the full moon day of the 8th lunar month around mid to late September according to the lunar calendar . Trung Thu means mid autumn .

Descent

According to Vietnamese tradition, autumn is considered the time of the female principle of the moon. That night, the moon was observed and forecasts for the future rice harvest were made.

The lantern festival mainly delights the children's hearts, as they can go on a pageant with their self-made lanterns and receive gifts from relatives in the form of toys. The adults bake and serve sticky, filled, round rice cakes called moon cakes ( Bánh Trung Thu ) in Bánh dẻo and Bánh nướng varieties . Traditionally, the Trung Thu festival in Vietnam is celebrated with dragon dances (vietnm. Múa lân ). On this special day, relatives are visited and moon cake, tea or wine are given away. You also remember your ancestors and burn play money to symbolize luck and fortune.
