The Roman Catholic Diocese of Socorro y San Gil ( lat. : Dioecesis Succursensis et Sancti Aegidii , span. : Diócesis de Socorro y San Gil ) is an in Colombia situated Roman Catholic diocese based in Socorro and San Gil .

history

The diocese Socorro y San Gil was on March 20, 1895 by Pope Leo XIII. from the cession of territory by the diocese of Nueva Pamplona as a diocese Socorro . The diocese of Socorro was renamed on January 19, 1928 in the Diocese of Socorro y San Gil . On April 2, 1928, the diocese Socorro y San Gil gave parts of its territory to the establishment of the territorial prelature Río Magdalena . Another assignment of territory took place on May 14, 2003 to establish the diocese of Vélez .

The diocese of Socorro y San Gil is subordinate to the Archdiocese of Bucaramanga as a suffragan .
