Aníbal Cardinal Muñoz Duque (born October 3, 1908 in Santa Rosa de Osos , Colombia , † January 15, 1987 ) was Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Bogotá .

Life

Aníbal Muñoz Duque was ordained a priest on November 19, 1933 in Santa Rosa de Osos .

1951 he was by Pius XII. appointed bishop of Socorro y San Gil , 1952 first bishop of Bucaramanga . 1959 followed the appointment as Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Nueva Pamplona by John XXIII. In 1968 he became the Koadjutorerzbischof of Bogotá ordered and titular bishop of Cariana appointed. In 1972 he was appointed Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Bogotá. He also became military bishop of Colombia . In the consistory of March 5, 1973 Pope Paul VI took him . as a cardinal priest with the titular church of San Bartolomeo all'Isola in the college of cardinals . In 1984 his resignation as Archbishop and Military Bishop was granted by Pope John Paul II .

Aníbal Muñoz Duque participated as archbishop in all four sessions of Vatican II and as cardinal in the two papal elections in 1978.
