Mario Cardinal Revollo Bravo (born June 19, 1919 in Genoa , Italy , † November 3, 1995 in Bogotá , Colombia ) was a Colombian clergyman, Archbishop of Bogotá and cardinal .

Life

Mario Revollo Bravo was born in Italy as the son of the Colombian consul . He studied in Bogota and Rome trays Catholic theology and philosophy and received on 31 October 1943, the sacrament of Holy Orders . After further studies, he worked from 1948 in the Archdiocese of Bogotá as a school chaplain, lecturer at the seminary and as a parish chaplain . In addition, was from 1949 to 1966 director of the magazine "El Catolicismo". During the Eucharistic Congress and the Pope's visit in 1968, Mario Revollo Bravo took on the role of media officer. On November 13, 1973, Pope Paul VI appointed him . the titular bishop of Thinisa in Numidia and Auxiliary Bishop in Bogotá. The Archbishop of Bogota, Cardinal Aníbal Muñoz Duque , ordained him as bishop on December 2nd of the same year. From 1973 to 1978 Mario Revollo Bravo was also vicar general for pastoral tasks in the Archdiocese of Bogotá.

Paul VI appointed him on February 28, 1978. to Archbishop of Nueva Pamplona . In 1984 Pope John Paul II entrusted him with the management of the Archdiocese of Bogotá, at the same time he made him the military bishop of Colombia . He kept his function as military bishop for only one year until June 1985. In the consistory of June 28, 1988, John Paul II created him cardinal and appointed him cardinal priest of the titular church of San Bartolomeo all'Isola . Cardinal Revollo Bravo resigned the leadership of the Archdiocese of Bogotá in 1994 for reasons of age and illness; the resignation was granted by John Paul II.

He died on November 3, 1995 in Bogotá and was buried in the local cathedral .
