Héctor Rueda Hernández (born November 9, 1920 in Mogotes , † November 1, 2011 in Bucaramanga ) was a Colombian clergyman and Roman Catholic Archbishop of Medellín .

Life

Héctor Rueda Hernández lost his mother at the age of 12 and his father at the age of 14. He attended the minor seminary in San Gil and studied philosophy and Catholic theology at the Seminary of Bogotá . On December 15, 1946 he was ordained a priest . After pastoral work, he became chancellor of the Socorro y San Gil diocese in 1952 . From 1953 to 1955 he completed a doctoral degree in Canon Law at the Pontifical Lateran University .

Pope John XXIII appointed him on May 6, 1960 bishop of Bucaramanga . The Apostolic Nuncio in Colombia , Archbishop Giuseppe Paupini , donated him episcopal ordination on June 19, 1960 ; Co- consecrators were the Bishop of Socorro y San Gil , Pedro José Rivera Mejía , and José Joaquín Flórez Hernández , Bishop of Duitama . He participated in all sessions of the Second Vatican Council from 1962 to 1965.

On December 14, 1974 he was appointed Archbishop of Bucaramanga and founded the seminary there. He also settled a branch of the Pontifical University of Bolivariana (UPB-Bucaramanga) in Bucaramanga.

Pope John Paul II appointed him Archbishop of Medellín on November 7, 1991 . On February 13, 1997, Pope John Paul II accepted his age-related resignation.
