The Pontifical University of Bolivariana ( Spanish : Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana , short: UPB ) is a Colombian university under papal law .
The university was founded on September 15, 1936 by the Archbishop of Medellín , Tiberio Salazar Herrera , as the Catholic University of Bolivariana . 1945 took place by Pope Pius XII. the elevation to a university under papal law. The spirit of the university is based on the Espíritu Bolivariano , a philosophy by José Manuel Sierra based on Simón Bolívar .
In addition to the headquarters in Medellín, there are branches in Bogotá , Bucaramanga , Montería and Palmira . Over 21,000 students are enrolled in 77 bachelor programs, 24 master’s programs and 7 doctoral programs (2006).
