The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Bucaramanga ( lat. : Archidioecesis Bucaramanguensis , span. : Arquidiócesis de Bucaramanga ) is an in Colombia situated Roman Catholic Diocese with headquarters in Bucaramanga . It covers part of the Colombian department of Santander .
history
Pope Pius XII founded it on December 17, 1952 with the bull Cum sit latior from cession of territory of the Archdiocese of Nueva Pamplona and it was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Bogotá as a suffragan diocese. On May 29, 1956, it became part of the ecclesiastical province of the Archdiocese of Nueva Pamplona .
With the Apostolic Constitution Quamquam Ecclesiarum it was raised to the rank of Metropolitan Archbishopric on December 14, 1974 . It lost part of its territory on July 7, 1987 in favor of the establishment of the diocese of Málaga-Soatá .
