Kerne ( Greek  Κέρνη ; Latin Cerne ) is a small island in the Atlantic Ocean in ancient geography , which Hanno the navigator found on his exploration outside the pillars of Heracles in the 5th century BC. Was discovered. In the Periplus des Hanno it is reported that the perimeter of the island is 5 stadiums (about 900 m) and that the team has built a settlement there.

It is possibly one of the small islands known in ancient times as the Purple Islands in the port of Essaouira .

Another possible location is the island of Herne near Ad-Dakhla . However, this has a circumference of 20 km. A third location was suggested by J. Ramin, namely one of the islands in the Gulf of Arguin off the Mauritanian coast.
