The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Ibagué ( Latin Archidioecesis Ibaguensis , Spanish Archidiócesis de Ibagué ) is an in Colombia situated Roman Catholic diocese based in Ibagué . It covers part of the Colombian department of Tolima .

history

Catedral de la Inmaculada Concepción

Pope Leo XIII. founded it on May 20, 1900 from cession of territory by the diocese of Tolima , which was dissolved at the same time, and it was subordinated to the archbishopric Popayán as a suffragan diocese. With the Apostolic Constitution Quamquam Ecclesiarum it was raised to the rank of Metropolitan Archbishopric on December 14, 1974 .

It lost parts of its territory in favor of the establishment of the following dioceses:

Ismael Perdomo Borrero (April 29, 1903 - February 5, 1923, then Coadjutor Archbishop of Bogotá )
Pedro María Rodríguez Andrade (April 10, 1924 - March 17, 1957)
Arturo Duque Villegas (March 17, 1957 - July 7, 1959, then Archbishop of Manizales )
Rubén Isaza Restrepo (November 2, 1959 - January 3, 1964, then Coadjutor Archbishop of Bogotá)
José Joaquín Flórez Hernández (March 17, 1964 - December 14, 1974)
