The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Manizales ( lat. : Archidioecesis Manizalensis , span. : Arquidiócesis de Manizales ) is an in Colombia situated Roman Catholic diocese , based in Manizales . It includes the Colombian department of Caldas and a small part of Risaraldas .
history
Pope Leo XIII. founded it on April 11, 1900 from cession of territory of the Diocese of Medellín and the Archdiocese of Popayán , to which it was also subordinated as a suffragan diocese. On February 24, 1902, it became part of the ecclesiastical province of the Archdiocese of Medellín.
With the Apostolic Constitution Ob arduum , the previous diocese was on May 10, 1954 by Pope Pius XII. raised to the rank of metropolitan archbishopric.
It lost parts of its territory in favor of the establishment of the following dioceses:
- December 17, 1952 to the dioceses of Armenia and Pereira ;
- March 29, 1984 to the diocese of La Dorada-Guaduas .
