Fiorano al Serio is a municipality in the province of Bergamo in the Italian region of Lombardy with 2996 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019). The municipality belongs to the Comunità montana della Valle Seriana .
geography
Fiorano al Serio is located in the Valle Seriana at the confluence of the Romna in the Serio . The place is 15 km northeast of the provincial capital Bergamo and 60 km northeast of the metropolis of Milan.
The neighboring communities are Casnigo , Cene , Gazzaniga and Vertova .
history
The place was first mentioned in writing in 840. The troops of Barbarossa subjugated the region in 1166. The village was burned down by the Guelphs in 1397 and in 1428 fell under foreign rule again. Under Napoleon Bonaparte , Fiorano al Serio fell to France in 1797 and from 1814 - after the fall of Napoleon - to Austria. This government lasted until Fiorano al Serio was annexed to the Kingdom of Sardinia in 1859.
Until 1927 Fiorano was part of the Gazzaniga commune and in 1947 received complete self-government.
