Barbata is a municipality in the province of Bergamo in the Italian region of Lombardy with 698 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019).

Barbata is about 33 km southeast of the provincial capital Bergamo. The districts are Cascina Scotta and Cà Fornaci .

The neighboring municipalities are Antegnate , Camisano (CR), Casaletto di Sopra (CR), Covo , Fontanella and Isso .

history

Although the settlement already existed in the 13th century, the place only became an independent municipality with 418 inhabitants (1853) in the Lombardy-Venetian kingdom . Barbata had the highest population in the first census of the Republic of Italy in 1951 with 942, since then the trend has been decreasing.
