Barzana is an Italian commune ( comune ) in the province of Bergamo in the Lombardy region with 2001 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019).

Barzana is located about nine kilometers northwest of the provincial capital Bergamo in the Val Imagna and is a member of the Comunità Montana Valle Imagna .

The neighboring communities are Almenno San Bartolomeo , Brembate di Sopra , Mapello and Palazzago .

history

Until 1797 Barzana belonged to Ponte San Pietro . In 1810 it was united with Palazzago. In 1809 there were 267 inhabitants. In the Lombard-Venetian Kingdom independent again, the census revealed in the establishment of the Kingdom of Italy 414 inhabitants. The population grew continuously to 643 by 1921. With slight fluctuations, the level could just be maintained until 1951 (624), since then a sustained increase has been recorded.
