Cortenuova is an Italian municipality with 1941 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) southeast of Bergamo , in the province of Bergamo .

Cortenuova was mentioned in the late 9th century as the royal court of the Carolingians and belonged to the bishops of Bergamo since 915 and to the counts there since the 11th century. The place became famous through the Battle of Cortenuova , which took place there on 27./28. November 1237 took place. It ended with the defeat of the Lombard League and the victory of the Staufer Emperor Friedrich II.

The city itself was destroyed after the victory of the imperial troops and the population had fled to the surrounding villages. Cortenouva remained sparsely populated until the 15th century.
