Cavernago is a municipality in the province of Bergamo in the Italian region of Lombardy with 2635 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019).

Cavernago is located eleven km southeast of the provincial capital Bergamo and 50 km northeast of the metropolis of Milan.

The neighboring communities are Calcinate , Ghisalba , Grassobbio , Seriate , Urgnano and Zanica .

Attractions

  • Castello di Cavernago , originally owned by the Bergamo Cathedral Chapter, was enlarged by Bartolomeo Colleoni and equipped with an arcaded courtyard; later it came to the Counts Giovannelli, then to the Counts Mazzotti Biancinelli and still belongs to the Prince Gonzaga di Vescovato.
  • Castello di Malpaga , acquired by Bartolomeo Colleoni in 1456 and decorated with important frescoes.
