Pontida is a municipality ( comune ) in the northern Italian province of Bergamo in Lombardy . Pontida is about 40 kilometers northeast of Milan and about 16 kilometers northwest of Bergamo . Since 2006 Pontida has been granted city rights by presidential decree.

The place is a few kilometers east of the Adda River on the railway line from Lecco to Bergamo. The former state road 342 runs through the village .

history

As the place of the oath of Pontida, the Lombard League was formed here in 1167 , which fought against Friedrich Barbarossa at the Battle of Legnano in 1176. During the Risorgimento of the 19th century, this oath was used again for the establishment of the state. Albert of Prezzate founded on 8 November 1076 at today Pontida the same Cluny - Priorat , in which he himself was a monk in 1080 and prior. 1910 the monastery as was Benedictine - Abbey Pontida rebuilt.
