Calcio is an Italian commune ( comune ) with 5352 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2019) in the province of Bergamo , Lombardy region .

geography

The neighboring municipalities are Antegnate , Cividate al Piano , Cortenuova , Covo , Fontanella , Pumenengo , Rudiano (BS) and Urago d'Oglio (BS).

Attractions

The medieval castle is the place that attracts great interest among tourists. The castle was built around the year 1000 on the property of an old Roman villa. In 1862 the castle, which was the political and social center of the region for hundreds of years, was renovated.

The parish church of San Vittore is also worth mentioning. Although planned in the 18th century, it was not completed until 1880. The imposing structure contains paintings by Aeneas Salmeggia and Marco Antonio Mainardi, called "Il Chiaveghino".

The community recently launched a project with the aim of renovating works of art on the house walls of its residents and also adding modern pictures by contemporary artists.
