Charles Martin Wamika

Charles Martin Wamika (born August 12, 1953 in Budaka ) is a Ugandan priest and bishop of Jinja .

Life

Charles Martin Wamika was ordained a priest on September 22, 1979 .

On October 18, 1993, John Paul II named him auxiliary bishop in Tororo and titular bishop of Tacapae . The military bishop of Uganda and Bishop of Tororo , James Odongo , donated him episcopal ordination on February 19 of the next year ; Co- consecrators were Emmanuel Wamala , Archbishop of Kampala , and Joseph B. Willigers MHM , Bishop of Jinja. Pope Benedict XVI appointed Wamika bishop of Jinja on March 2, 2010 .

criticism

In April 2014, Bishop Wamika came under fire for his Easter sermon, in which he praised the legislation against homosexuality by President Yoweri Museveni in Uganda and called on parents to report their homosexual children to the authorities. In several blogs and other media outlets, this has been viewed as a call for genocide .
