The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Kampala ( lat. : Archidioecesis Kampalaensis ) is in Uganda located Metropolitan Diocese of the Roman Catholic Church .

history

St. Mary's Cathedral in Kampala

The forerunner of today's Archdiocese of Kampala is in 1880 by Leo XIII. Apostolic Vicariate of Nyanza founded out of the Apostolic Vicariate of Central Africa in Sudan . The name of the Vicariate changed to Victoria-Nyanza (1883), North-Victoria Nyanza (1894) and finally on January 15, 1915 to the Apostolic Vicariate of Uganda. On March 25, 1953, Pope Pius XII. the elevation to the Archdiocese of Rubaga. Pope Paul VI founded the current Archdiocese of Kampala by renaming on August 5, 1966. The first bishop was Léon-Antoine-Augustin-Siméon Livinhac MAfr of the Missionary Order of the White Fathers .

Suffragan dioceses are Kasana-Luweero (1996), Kiyinda-Mityana (1981), Lugazi (1996) and Masaka (1953).
