The Diocese of Masaka ( Latin : Dioecesis Masakaensis ) is a Roman Catholic diocese based in Masaka in Uganda . It is a suffragan diocese of the Archdiocese of Kampala .
history
On May 25, 1939, it was established as the Apostolic Vicariate Masaka from the cession of territory by the Apostolic Vicariate Uganda . On March 25, 1953, the elevation to the diocese took place, which was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Rubaga as a suffragan diocese. The former Vicar Apostolic Joseph Kiwánuka became the first bishop .

The diocese covers an area of 21,299 square kilometers with a population of an estimated 1,962,000 inhabitants, of which - also estimated - 1,044,000 are Catholic. It is currently divided into 52 municipalities.
