Joseph B. Willigers

Joseph B. Willigers MHM (born October 26, 1930 in Gronsveld , † October 1, 2012 in Oosterbeek near Arnhem ) was Bishop of Jinja .

Life

Joseph B. Willigers joined the Order of the Mission Society of St. Joseph von Mill Hill and received after his philosophical and theological training on July 10, 1955 by Bernard William Cardinal Griffin the ordination . He then studied canon law in Rome . In 1958 he went on a mission and was active in education and pastoral care in Uganda and Kenya . In 1965 he was appointed vicar general of the Kenyan diocese of Kisumu by Bishop Joannes de Reeper MHM .

Pope Paul VI appointed him on July 13, 1967 as the first bishop of Jinja after the renaming of the diocese in the east of the Ugandan capital Kampala . The Archbishop of Kampala , Emmanuel Kiwanuka Nsubuga , donated him episcopal ordination on December 3 of the same year; Co- consecrators were Joannes de Reeper MHM, Bishop of Kisumu , and James Odongo , Auxiliary Bishop in Tororo . In 2009 he was a participant in the African Synod of Bishops.

On March 2, 2010, Pope Benedict XVI. his resignation request submitted for reasons of age.
