The Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Kisumu ( lat. : Archidioecesis Kisumuensis ) is in Kenya situated Roman Catholic Archdiocese based in Kisumu .
history
The Archdiocese of Kisumu was founded on July 15, 1925 by Pope Pius XI. established with the Apostolic Constitution Ut aucto from cessions of territory of the Apostolic Vicariate Upper Nile as Apostolic Prefecture Kavirondo . On May 27, 1932, the Apostolic Prefecture Kavirondo was by Pius XI. raised to the Apostolic Vicariate with the Apostolic Constitution Cum non sine and renamed the Apostolic Vicariate Kisumu .
The Apostolic Vicariate Kisumu was on March 25, 1953 by Pope Pius XII. raised to the diocese and subordinated to the archdiocese of Nairobi as a suffragan . On June 29, 1953, the diocese of Kisumu gave up parts of its territory to establish the Apostolic Prefecture of Eldoret . Further territories were ceded on October 20, 1959 to found the Ngong Apostolic Prefecture , May 21, 1960 to found the Kisii diocese , January 11, 1968 to found the Nakuru diocese and on February 27, 1978 to found the Kakamega diocese .
On May 21, 1990, the diocese of Kisumu was raised to an archbishopric by Pope John Paul II with the Apostolic Constitution Si quidem secundum .
