James Odongo

James Odongo (born March 27, 1931 in Molo ) is bishop of the military ordinariate of Uganda and participant in the last session of the Second Vatican Council .

Life

James Odongo was ordained a priest on December 22, 1956 and was incardinated in the clergy of the diocese of Tororo .

Pope Paul VI appointed him on November 25, 1964 titular bishop of Bahanna and auxiliary bishop in Tororo. He was ordained episcopal by the Archbishop of Dar es Salaam , Laurean Cardinal Rugambwa , on February 16, 1965; Co- consecrators were John Francis Greif MHM , Bishop of Tororo, and Vincent Joseph McCauley CSC , Bishop of Fort Portal .

On August 19, 1968, he was appointed Bishop of Tororo. On January 5, 1985, Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of the Military Ordinary of Uganda . The Pope raised the diocese to an archbishopric on January 2, 1999, making him the first archbishop of Tororo. Pope Benedict XVI On June 27, 2007 he accepted his resignation due to reasons of age.
